The Call of Duty community is notorious for being incredibly harsh. Banning people who have used Windows 11 together with Overwolf, an app that lets you control your PC games over a mobile phone.

  • Activision is well-known for having a zero-tolerance policy for cheaters and hackers in general.
  • Some players were permanently banned from the servers, despite the fact that they were completely innocent.
  • This was caused by a clash between Overwolf and Windows 11 Insider builds.
  • Despite Activision’s admission that this was a mistake, the prohibitions were not removed.

Let’s be clear right off the bat: the combination of the two will not cause your computer to crash. Now that we’ve cleared things out, we still don’t advocate pairing the two in some situations.

But first, for those who are unfamiliar, Overfwolf is a software platform for in-game overlay applications that allows independent developers to create the apps they want for the games they love.

If you’re serious about gaming, keep in mind that some servers will identify if you’re using the software listed above, and the outcome will not be to your satisfaction.

For utilizing Windows 11 and Overwolf, you’ve been banned from COD.

Remember how we warned you should be cautious about combining these two? We’re going to explain why this isn’t at all in your best interests.

Recently, a disgruntled Activision customer revealed troubling details regarding how the firm handled him as a result of a platform issue with the aforementioned software.

After being permanently banned a few weeks ago due to a well-known and apparently fairly common issue – that is, attempting to open Cold War while Overwolf is open while running an Insider build of Windows 11 – Activision has finally responded, stating that despite being innocent, they are unable to unban my account. They have admitted that the ban was incorrect, but they are refusing to reverse it since all bans are final.

Overwolf was apparently identified as an aimbot or wallhack by the Call of Duty servers’ anti-cheat security systems.

Because artists don’t want to hear about such behavior violations, this resulted in a permanent ban.

And this isn’t the only example out there; there are a slew of additional postings from users who are in the same boat after upgrading to a Windows 11 Insider release.

They’re all tied to Call of Duty, therefore if you’re a Call of Duty fan, we highly encourage you to conduct some study or just avoid getting into the same predicament.

We couldn’t discover any information regarding folks who had similar experiences when playing other games, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The makers of Overwolf claim that it is not their software’s fault.

Overwolf claims that this is the first time they’ve heard of it and that their software has nothing to do with the bans in a post on their official support website.

So, most likely, it’s a blend of a Windows 11 Insider build and Overwolf, despite the fact that this doesn’t seem to be a very volatile combo at first glance.

However, as we previously said, if you are a Windows Insider and are actively testing the new OS while simultaneously using Overwolf, be cautious while visiting sites or platforms that you do not want to be banned from.

You should also be aware that you may deactivate the Overwolf overlay for certain games, which might be handy.

We’ll keep an eye out for any new details on this subject, and we’ll let you know as soon as we find out anything.
