Max Verstappen is now in the lead ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with Nico Rosberg not too far behind. It seems like a close battle for 3rd place though between Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel

Max Verstappen extended his lead over Lewis Hamilton with a win in Mexico City. Read more in detail here: f1 news.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull won the Mexico City Grand Prix by a comfortable margin, boosting his hopes of winning his first world title.

Lewis Hamilton, Verstappen’s championship challenger, finished second, beating off a late attack from teammate Sergio Perez in the final circuits.

On the last lap, Perez got close to overtaking Hamilton but was unable to do so.

Verstappen’s tenth victory in 2021 puts him 19 points ahead of the field with four races and 107 points left.

Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s teammate, robbed the Dutchman of a point for fastest lap on the final circuit.

Verstappen now has a huge lead in the championship after one of the most impressive wins of the year.

A one-three finish propelled Red Bull into second place in the constructors’ standings, only one point behind Mercedes.

What was Verstappen’s strategy for turning the tables?

Verstappen placed himself in a position to win by gaining the lead at the first turn after Mercedes unexpectedly sealed out the first row on Saturday.

Verstappen took advantage of the pull behind the two Mercedes cars and then slotted into a space created on the outside by Bottas on the run off the grid, braking later than both Mercedes drivers and sweeping around their outside into a lead he never seemed like relinquishing.

Verstappen said, “It was all about braking late.” “I kept it on the track the whole time, and it practically won me the race.”

Bottas was forced into a spin by McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo in the aftermath of the action, relegating him to the rear and removing him from contention. To add insult to injury, Bottas resumed on lap one behind Ricciardo after a pit stop for tyres and was unable to overtake him for the following 30 circuits or so.

Mexico City CrowdPerez was cheered on by around 135,000 Mexican supporters.

Mercedes pitted him late in the race to achieve the best lap, limiting Verstappen’s points total by one.

Verstappen drew away from Hamilton so decisively that many believed he would have won even if he hadn’t claimed the lead at the start.

He ran a trouble-free race, moving almost ten seconds ahead of Hamilton by the time the world champion pitted on lap 29.

Mercedes pitted Hamilton on that lap because Perez was putting pressure on him and they needed to ‘bank’ track position.

Perez was subsequently kept out for another 11 circuits by Red Bull in order to give him fresher tyres for his second stint against Hamilton.

With 11 circuits to remaining, Perez was within a second of Hamilton.

There were a few scary moments when Hamilton approached McLaren’s Lando Norris to lap him, but he wasn’t near enough to overtake until the younger Briton received some blue lights. Once clear of Norris Hamilton, though, Perez always seemed to be in control.

Hamilton said, ” “This weekend, their vehicle was so superior that there was nothing we could do about it. I’m simply relieved to have a second.”

MexicoTsunoda climbed all over Schumacher to end both of their races on the opening lap.

Who else did well in the race?

Behind the leaders, the race was relatively unremarkable.

In the Alpha Tauri, Pierre Gasly ran a good but lonely race, starting fifth and finishing fourth.

He had the Ferraris in the rearview mirror. For a long time, Charles Leclerc was the leading red car, but his teammate Carlos Sainz pitted even later than Perez, and Leclerc allowed him through in the closing circuits to give him a chance to catch Gasly.

With a few circuits to go, the Ferraris changed back, propelling Leclerc back to fifth place ahead of Sainz.

Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin finished eighth, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Alfa Romeo, Fernando Alonso of Alpine, and Lando Norris of Lotus.

Max VerstappenIn such an uninteresting race, there was nothing to choose from, but Verstappen was superb in the best car by far, as he has been for most of the season, and he is looking more like he will be difficult to stop in the championship.

So, what’s next?

Next weekend, F1 returns to the Americas for the Brazilian Grand Prix at historic Interlagos in Sao Paulo. Verstappen won the race the previous time it was staged in 2019, and he is the favorite again this weekend. Hamilton will have his job cut out for him.

Sergio Perez fanThe clamor of Perez’s followers in the stadium area, on the other hand, lends the race its character.
