Kevin Holland is a former Marine and current Deputy Sheriff in the state of Florida. He was recently involved in a wild altercation with a carjacker who attempted to steal his patrol car.

Kevin Holland, a retired police officer, was walking to work when he saw a carjacker trying to steal his wife’s car. He quickly subdued the man and saved his wife from being kidnapped.

After a fiasco of a bout at UFC Vegas 38, Kevin Holland had quite the experience. Kevin Holland’s promising effort was spoiled by an unintentional head collision, and the bout was declared a No Contest.

Kevin Holland came face to face with a vehicle thief less than 48 hours later, and he assisted in the capture of the would-be criminal. He came on The MMA Hour and spoke about what occurred.

Holland said, “I didn’t really stop him because he got the vehicle and the car was damaged” (transcription via Alex K. Lee). “As we drove through the neighborhoods, we caught up to him. I was driving down the street when a man sped out of the parking lot, followed by a group of others, and he said, “Yo, he took my vehicle.” ‘I’ve been in quarantine for a week,’ I said. Let’s go have some fun because I didn’t get to complete my fight.” I do a U-turn and start following the man; he goes into the same street as my coach, so I’m driving down the street, on the phone with my mother, and she says, ‘It’s definitely a repo.’ ‘Mom, if you see this vehicle, you can tell,’ I say. It’s not a repossession.’ “I’m going to hang up and call the police,” I say.

“Rather of contacting the police, I phone my coach and tell him, ‘Hey, this guy is going through your area and he just stole a vehicle.’ If we cut him off, we’ll be able to capture him.’ And he says, ‘All right, bet.’

The strategy succeeded since they were able to restrain the guy, but it did not proceed as planned. Although the vehicle was destroyed, Kevin Holland was able to get some action after his battle.

“I go back in my vehicle and start chasing them down, and we start pursuing them,” Holland said. “When the [suspect] hits the roadway, he strikes a small trailer being carried by a tractor with lawn equipment and other items on the rear, totaling the vehicle. The man exits the vehicle after it has been declared totaled. The driver of the truck pulls up in front of him, effectively blocking him. I approach from behind, causing the man to flee. Instead of moving ahead, he begins to back up. At first, he was moving ahead, but then he turned around.

“I drive up, grab my coffee cup, and tell myself that this time I’m going to be prepared. My coffee cup was handed to me. I’m following him down and he reaches down to do something like this; I’m not sure whether he’s saying stop or what. With the coffee cup, I go like this, and then I strike him with a little sweep. Ascend to the top, place your knee on his belly, and strike him with the tiny Khabib scarf grip. I scooped him up and placed him on the curb because he said, “I can’t breathe.” I didn’t want to end up like the policeman with the Can’t Breathe guy, so I said, “F*ck it, let’s just move him over here.”

But that wasn’t the end of it. The owner of the vehicle who had it stolen decided to take matters into his own hands.

He had to be told to back down by Kevin Holland. He wanted to stomp on the thief’s face.

“When I had my knee on the man’s tummy, [the vehicle owner] was very angry and he was rushing up, he was going to soccer kick the guy as I was holding him down,” Holland said. “So I slapped him in the stomach and told him to ‘Relax, chill, chill.’ Don’t strike this knucklehead when I’m putting him down. If you strike him, I’m going to fuck you up,’ and he was like, ‘Alright, fine.’

“It wasn’t too terrible; it was smooth. Overall, I believe it was a pleasant morning. I was still able to do my tasks, although it slowed me down. I was attempting to avoid traffic that way, but I didn’t actually avoid traffic; it simply took the same amount of time. I was just having a little fun with it. It was enjoyable.”
